Belmay Musical Garden
Working in conjunction with Musica Viva through an Artist in residency Grant, the year long project showcases a series of musical instrument designed to strengthen students artistic ability and heighten their interest in music. The musical garden development involved both primary and secondary student’s input into design and development of the garden. Numerous workshops took place which helped capture and develop new and interesting ideas that the artist would then create into reality. The workshops also focused on the natural environment and functional creation, reflecting the usability and design of the school garden.
Working closely with the teachers of the schools, each instrument developed and constructed played a vital role in the education of the music as well as providing science and technical skills education. The secondary school students in particular benefitted from learning industry relevant skills from the artist.
Each free standing instrument has been built to comply with Australian Standards and will withstand physical and natural elements.
